Back Bay Headshot Photographer — Craig William Johnston Studio
Executive & editorial headshots, ten minutes from your office.
If your face is going to live on the firm’s website for the next five years, it should look like you.
Editorial & executive headshots · Private studio in SoWa, across the bridge · By appointment
Your headshot is in every room you’re not in.
It’s on the partners’ page before the meeting. On the firm’s homepage during the pitch. On the conference site before the keynote. On LinkedIn before the call back. It’s the first impression — and you’re not there to correct it.
Most Back Bay headshots were taken five years ago, in a hallway, by someone the firm contracted to do everyone at once. You’ve outgrown that headshot. Your title has changed. So has your face. The headshot is still working the room — just not for you anymore.
I run the studio differently. One person at a time, by appointment, ten minutes across the bridge in SoWa. No queue. No “next!” between sittings. The work is editorial — closer to a magazine portrait than a backdrop-and-blink. You leave with a frame that looks like you on your best day, not like the version someone in HR ordered.
Selected work

How it works
- The call. 15 minutes. We talk about what the headshot needs to do — partner announcement, press kit, conference site, leadership page. The session starts on this call.
- The session. 60–90 minutes in the private SoWa studio. Two to three wardrobe looks. Direction throughout. Park in the building, take the elevator up — you’ll never circle Boylston.
- The selection. A curated gallery of your strongest frames at a follow-up review. You choose what your role needs. Images licensed individually — you decide where they live.
Pricing
Every sitting is tailored. Pricing depends on what you actually need — headshots, executive portraits, web banners, internal use. We walk through it together on the 15-minute call. Sessions start at $650.
A 50% deposit secures your date. Sessions typically book 3–4 weeks out — earlier if you need the image for a press date.
Frequently asked
- How far is the studio from Back Bay?
- About ten minutes by car (1140 Washington St in SoWa) or one stop on the Silver Line. Parking is available in the building.
- Do you photograph law firm groups or just individuals?
- Individuals only. Each sitting is one person — that’s what makes the work different from a contracted-group shoot. If your firm wants matched lighting across multiple partners, we book each person separately.
- Can I use the headshot for press releases and conference sites?
- Yes. Images are licensed individually, with use rights confirmed at the gallery review.
- What if my role is changing and I need the headshot fast?
- Tell me on the call. We can usually accommodate press timing with advance notice. Final files typically deliver within 5–7 business days after the gallery review.
